Partner
Brett Freedman is a Partner at Gray Space Strategies, working directly with clients navigating decisions in Washington.
He brings nearly two decades of experience at the highest levels of the U.S. government across the legislative and executive branches, with a focus on national security, intelligence, and emerging technology. His work has centered on how decisions are formed—inside the Senate, across the interagency process, and within the national security apparatus.
Brett most recently served as Chief of Staff for the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, where he oversaw the work of hundreds of attorneys across areas including foreign investment, counterterrorism, counterespionage, and cybersecurity. Prior to that, he spent seven years on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, including as General Counsel to Chairman Mark Warner, where he helped shape legislation, intelligence authorities, and oversight of the intelligence community.
Earlier in his career, Brett served as an attorney at the National Security Agency and in the National Counterterrorism Center, and as Counsel to the President’s Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies. Across these roles, he developed a detailed understanding of how policy, law, and national security decisions are made—and how they change over time.
At Gray Space Strategies, Brett works with organizations to understand how decisions are forming, navigate the Senate and broader government environment, and engage with precision. His approach reflects deep familiarity with the people, process, and rules that shape outcomes in Washington.
